The Five Realms: Expanding Systemic Constellation Work
The Realms Training is part of CSC’s continuing professional development program. It is of interest to all practitioners and graduates of systemic constellation trainings who wish to explore advanced-level learning that further develops and delineates field-based practice. Learning how to recognise and work with The Realms offers new ways of facilitating constellations, providing choice-points that deepen the work and support our presence as facilitators.
The CSC Realms Training is run by Gaye Donaldson and Sheila McCarthy-Dodd. Gaye is the lead teacher and principal director of CSC. Sheila is a senior faculty member and director of CSC.

The Five Realms model was originated by Judith Hemming, one of the founders of CSC. Gaye collaborated with Judith on the first Realms program in 2015 and has continued to develop and deepen her understanding ever since.
About The Realms Training
This training will focus on the use of The Realms in Constellation Work. This understanding is invaluable when exploring personal, political, cultural, creative, educational and social issues. By including different perspectives, The Realms widen the range and application of systemic constellation work for all practitioners. They also offer a framework that helps mitigate potential overwhelm in the system.
Over the three days together, we will inter-weave teaching on the Body, Personal, Systemic, Archetypal and Divine Realms with experiential exercises, personal inquiry, ritual and practice. The learning journey will be dynamic and explorative and will be impactful, both personally and professionally.
Who is it for?
This training is for all those who have an interest in Constellation Work and would like to deepen their connection with the field. It must be noted however, that it is not a training in the basic principles and practice of constellation work. An understanding of phenomenology, field-based practice and the systemic orders is essential. We recommend that participants have completed at least a foundation-level training in systemic constellation work or have attended many constellation workshops. This professional development training is very relevant for therapists, coaches, consultants, educationalists, those who work in the creative arts, and social activists.
What will your learn/develop?
The teaching provides a way of clarifying direction and intent. Each realm can be experienced physically as a vibration with its own qualities. You will explore the inter-connection between the different realms and how to recognise and use them in your practice, whether resourcing or resolving issues.
Understanding The Realms enables us to explore questions, issues and ideas from different perspectives and this enhances the effectiveness of constellation work for both facilitators and clients.
Body /Somatic Realm
The body is our receiving apparatus… our biology, the place of our physical reality, our perception, our impressions, where we register and recognise the world around us. Although this is the place of our physical reality and is about the seen and known, it also has unseen, mysterious elements too.
Personal Realm
This is the place of our life choices, our individuality, our emotional life. It is from here that we call our life our own. It’s here that we speak from ‘I’ and we move from our deepest desires to our ego consciousness. This is the place our addictions, our grief, our fears, it’s also where our ideas, energy for life, and joy reside. This is the place of our value judgements, our learning. In a physical sense, this is the place where the events and actions of our lifetime occur.
Systemic Realm
In the systemic realm, we feel the family and the tribe as a whole. It is here that we meet the entangled places in our ancestral story, we feel – often unconsciously, our belonging to our wider family history and the genetic and epigenetic inheritance that carries our history. Here we feel ourselves to be a part of much larger systems too, caught between the past and the future we register the natural forces that bring balance and stability to a field that is never still, always unfolding.
Archetypal Realm
The archetypal or mythic realm is less personal. It deals with eternal themes that are part of being human – birth and death, war and peace, passion, envy, loss, hope and despair, choice and constraint. These are energy forms that are universal in nature, and which govern our lives as humans.
This realm takes us up into mythology, philosophy, and our attitudes to fate and freedom. It’s full of surprising gifts, especially for those who find the same problem relentlessly re-visited. This is the realm where the field connects us to themes that are eternal and infinite.
Divine Realm /Source
This is not really a separate realm, and in some ways it cannot be called a realm at all, as it is as omnipresent as the air we breathe. We come from source and we will return to source when we leave our physical body. Divine or source energy is pure potential – it is the origin of everything, and what comes from it arrives by grace. If we are able to discern the way it travels we become an ‘instrument of reception’. This realm resources all the others, and sometimes the help we need can only be found here. When we recognise that we are all part of the Great Mystery – that ‘I am what you are’, then we flow with grace, endlessly resourced, in service of others and the Greater Whole.
