What you will learn/develop
Online masterclass In the usual understanding, Contracting is recognised as important to any kind of psychotherapeutic work, especially so when only few sessions are offered; in single-session systemic interventions a contract is very important indeed. It is not usual, however, to consider contracting to be both a part of the creative process of systemic constellating as well as offering significant benefits to practitioners. It is the creative aspect of contracting to which Richard will primarily attend in this Masterclass.
Image Formation is the new element Richard introduces. This creative opportunity arises during the initial, interview phase of the work and underlies and contributes to a beneficial contract. Creatively combining skill and systemic knowledge in this phase increases the likelihood of a positive transformative experience for the client.
Richard will also address the contract Completion phase, which some consider to be the whole process. Though only a part, this phase has importance in its own right for the protections it offers the facilitator as well as the client.
Image Formation: To generate both a hypothesis and contract and to then conduct the work, we must create a rich understanding of the client’s issue. Through deep listening, the facilitator develops an image of the issue. She/he then adds structure and direction to the image by querying their own understanding of the Orders. This active workspace of the imagination allows plotting-through a sequence of interventions aimed toward issue resolution. The image offers a preview of what may be possible in the work and how that might be achieved. The verbal form of this image, more or less full, is what we can propose to the client as the contract.
Following the client’s agreement and the work itself is Completion: To the degree our image and its structure have been accurate, the client will have received what we offered and what they agreed. This alignment safeguards our practice. When Image and Completion facets align the facilitator additionally protects her- or himself from an ego-driven solution.
